KNAPTON ACADEMY - ANNUAL REPORT 1957

SCHOLAR - Kipper (Sid)

CLASS - Lower Third Removed

FOREIGN LANGUAGES

Sid has struggled in this subject, not least because he seems to think that English is a foreign language!.  He has a tendency to wander, for which we are all extremely grateful.

LOCAL STUDIES

He has an excellent knowledge of local geography, albeit seeming to be based almost exclusively on the location of public houses.  At first I felt his obsession with fieldwork might be a problem, but now I tend to regard it as more of a solution.

MATHEMATICS

Although quite able at mental arithmetic, Sid seems to find it impossible to show his workings (this is not a comment on the incident behind the bike sheds with Raquel Whelk).

HISTORY

I have learnt a great deal from him, due to his extensive knowledge of the history of his own family, many of whom appear to have been present at crucial historical moments.

SPORT

His fox hunting is only average, and I cannot seem to get it into his head that it is sporting to allow the pheasants to fly out of the wood before shooting them.  His rabbit netting, however, is exceptional.

MUSIC

Sid will insist on singing rough folk songs.  I have tried to interest him in Cecil Sharp's folk song arrangements, but he simply insists on unarranging them.  Worse still, he tends to put back the parts of the songs which Mr Sharp has so wisely left out.
