THE TRIMINGHAM TRIANGULAR SIX

A DANCE FROM THE VILLAGE OF TRIMINGHAM

(With notes by Sid Kipper)

Tune - 32 bars.

Danced in triangular sets, with partners on your right (unless you're the partner, in which case you go on the left).

1      Unlucky Seven (8 bars)

Take right hands with your partner, then pass them and dance round the set twice, taking alternate hands with the people you meet, counting up to seven - this should be your partner again.

As you meet your partner start to go past them, but don't let go hands, and pull them back.

(This represents trying to get away from your partner, but not succeeding).

2      Reverse Swing (8 bars)

Swing your partner, back to back.

(This represents trying to make it work, but keeping your eye out at the same time).

3      Having a Fling (8 bars)

Turn away from your partner - you are now facing another person, who is your 'bit on the side'.

Dance around and about them, with your arms in the air, shouting traditional cries like "Yee-ha" or "Way-hay".

(This symbolises everyone having a bit of a fling with their bits on the side).

4      Community Charge (8 bars)

Take your 'bit on the side' in a ballroom hold and charge off across the room.

Turn as a couple, then charge back to reform the set.

(This symbolises going off for a bit with your bit on the side).

Then

Start again with your 'bit on the side' as your new partner.  Dance the dance three or six times through, so that you end up with partner you first started with.

(This represents the total futility of the whole business).
