Oh me name is Dick O'Really, I was leader of the band;

We had Mick who mauled the lute, Ric the fiddle flayer and

There was Nick who tortured flutes, but the star - there's no dispute -

Was myself, because I beat the daylights out of my bodhran.

And we played:   Deadly, deadly, deadly, deadly,. die!

Well the band all got together in the back room of the Star,

Where we thrashed the deadly tune, for hours and hours and hours.

We slaughtered Paddy Doyle, then a Sailor's Life we spoiled,

And decided that we'd call ourselves Four Deadbeats In The Bar.

And we played:   Deadly, deadly, deadly, deadly,. die!

If the truth be told not everybody found the music fun;

In fact, beside ourselves, well, there wasn't even one!

The Vicar sat and prayed, June turned off her hearing aid,

And Fred said if he had one he'd go home and get his gun.

We still played:   Deadly, deadly, deadly, deadly,. die!

Well at closing time the landlord asked us why we played that stuff;

"For the kicks and for the crack", was the way Nick summed it up.

So the landlord cracked Nick's flute, kicked the fiddle through the lute,

And shoved my bodhran where I'd have to play it standing up!

Well at the time I cried, but now I feel such pride,

For I can say that I was there the day the deadly died!
